There will be a “Vision Class” on Sunday December 7th following the 2nd morning service for those who would like to become a member and join the vision of Destiny Outreach Ministries to reach our generation and the next with the love of Jesus.

Being a member is showing your commitment with us and doing more than filling a seat. We believe that every member has a ministry and gifting, and we want to see that fulfilled.

We will host our Halloween alternative, “Hallow-Him” on Firday, October 31st from 7:00-8:30pm.  There will be a black light theatre, games, trunk or treat, and more!

MOPS is collecting shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child to bring joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide.  Through gift-filled shoe boxes the Good News of God’s love can make a difference in the lives of many children. What do you need to do?  Pray that God will touch the heart of every child who receives a shoe box gift then Pack your Gift.  A list of item suggestions and complete instructions can be found in brochures and handouts located at the information desk at the church.  Shoe box collections will take place through the first week of November.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1958, Ray grew up in Baltimore City with his four sisters and parents, John and Eva Sydnor . A graduate of Northwestern High School, Ray lettered for three years in football and two years in basketball. He graduated as a High School All-American football and basketball player and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he received a full scholarship to play football. There he played football for all four years and basketball for three . During his senior year, he was selected as All-Big TEN Tight End and was subsequently drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He later was picked up by the Philadelphia Eagles and was a member of their Super Bowl team in 1980.

Ray began to use drugs in high school at parties and with friends to build his self- confidence. At first it was a recreational habit, but as time went on he became more and more dependent on drugs as a social and mental crutch. In college, although playing outstanding football and basketball competitively, his life began to become complicated by his gradual addiction. After college graduation, in the NFL, Ray continued his drug abuse until finally it destroyed both his drive and initiative. As a result he was cut from the Eagles. Ray thought he could handle life, but his need for drugs ruined his football career and later stole years of his life. For 19 years, Ray was addicted to crack cocaine. After watching his life leave a trail of destruction and hurt, Ray began his recovery from addiction to crack cocaine in 1998.

Student Ministry for Teens

Teens, don’t miss “The Edge” this Wednesday as we kick off a new season of our Youth Ministry here at DOM!  We will be meeting in the sanctuary at 7:00, then launch into our breakout session!

MOPS had there Open House on September 11 to start of their season and it was a great success!  Moms enjoyed fellowship, games and lots of food all while their children were having a blast in MOPPETS.  MOPS will have their next meeting on October 9 from 6:00-8:00 in the Annex.

 MOPS of Destiny Outreach were at the Tazewell County Fair promoting their 2008-09 season.  They distributed information packets and brochures about MOPS and spoke to many moms in the area about their ministry.  Children in attendance received special treats just for stopping by.  Thanks to all those who participated in the MOPS booth. MOPS Open House will be on September 11 from 6:00-8:00pm. All mothers of newborn children to kindergarten are encouraged to attend.

Each year we take our service out of our church building and to the rec park and have a picnic that wraps everything up. Many people stay and play games and have a great time of fellowship! Mark your calanders now and plan on being with us.

His Networks and our Celebrate Recovery group is raising money to minister to those on probation and incarcerated in our local jails.

There will be a golf tournament on Friday Aug. 8th at Wolf Creek Golf Course. If you or your company would like to form a team, the entry fee is $300. Your company can also sponsor a hole for $100. Wow, it was hot last year at the Back to School Blowout! We really went through the snowcones! We will be having the blowout again this year on Sunday September 7,2008 from 2pm-4pm.

This year there will be games, rides, and special music from our own Travis Roberts, L&R Duff, and the Nfusion Teen Praise Band. PLUS, free giveaways! The best part is that everything is FREE, so join us and bring someone with you.

This is a picture from when we fed and ministered to the THS football team in 2006. We have the opportunity to fed and minister to the THS football team again this year! We will be doing so on Tuesday, August 5th.

MOPS, the “Mothers of Pre-scholers” is having a summer book club for all interested mothers. The final meeting will be on Thursday August 14th from 6:00-8:00pm.

Beach Party VBS will be wrapping up on Friday June 20th.  Parents, it still isn’t too late if you’d like to bring your kids out tonight or on Friday!

MOPs is excited to announce their theme for 2008-2009 is “Adventures in Mothering” An Adventurous Ride in the Ups and Downs of Motherhood. To help with the planning of MOPs upcoming year, a meeting will be held on Saturday June 28 from 10:00am-Noon (Refreshments will be provided). Get ready for VBS coming on June 16th-20th!  Beach Party VBS will start weeknights at 7:00pm.

There will be a special meeting for all adults who will be helping on Saturday May 31st from 10a-noon.  Lunch will be provided.  All that want to be a part, please attend this meeting.

Joins on Sunday June 1, 2008 as we celebrate the 10-year anniversary of our church. This will be a special service that you will not want to miss!

A bit of history as we approach the 10-year anniversary:
Destiny Outreach Ministries, formerly “Voice of Praise” was built in 1998 as a sister church of Voice of Praise in Bluewell, WV. Over the years the church has grown and even had a name change. The church leadership and as a whole remained the same through the name change. The new name picked by church members was Destiny Outreach Ministries.

In the beginning, Pastor Preston Mathena was the senior pastor of both the Bluewell and Tazewell church. Pastor Preston moved on to a world missions position at the Appalachian Conference, the regional office of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church. As a church, Destiny Outreach Ministries is a member of the Appalachian Conference division of the IPHC.

In 2002, Pastor Steve Branch followed the Lord’s calling to Virginia from Orlando, FL where he was the Continuing Education Director of the Florida IPHC. He continues as Senior Pastor today. More on our staff here.
